According to the European Commission, approximately 80% of European companies suffered cyber attacks in 2016. The document also says that since the beginning of 2016, more than 4 thousand attacks have occurred every day around the world, which is 300% more than in 2015. “Studies show that the economic damage from cyberattacks has grown five times from 2013 to 2017 and can grow four times by 2019,” the EC emphasized.

Strengthening international cooperation should be one of the priorities of the EU strategy to combat cyber threats, the European Commission notes. “The EU will give priority to creating a strategic framework for conflict prevention and stability in cyberspace as part of its bilateral, regional and multilateral commitments,” the EC statement said.
The document emphasizes that cyberattacks are one of the main global threats of our time, and therefore international cooperation is extremely important. “Given the global nature of the threat, building and maintaining strong alliances and partnerships with third countries is fundamental to preventing and deterting cyber attacks, which are playing an increasingly important role in ensuring international stability and security,” the EC notes.
To date, the European Union has established dialogues on this issue with the United States, Japan, India, South Korea and China. “In addition, close consultations are being held with NATO, the ASEAN Regional Forum (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development),” the European Commission said.
